#TrackGR - The greek track of the week #1

Hello all,

Today we are going to present you one of the most played and famous greek tracks of 2012... because this is our way to introduce you more more into the greek reality that you are living each day in Athens.

So, let's GO!!! Click play on the YouTube video below and let us give you some information about the song that you have heard many times during your stay.

The track is called "Pio psila" (gr: "Πιο ψηλά", meaning "Higher") and performed by VEGAS band. VEGAS is a quit new greek group formed in 2008 and consists of three members: vocalists ZeRaw and Melina, and DJ Airth on the consoles. The reason that the song became so famous in Greece is basically the catchy sound and the optimist romantic lyrics.

Just to have a clue, the lyrics of the chorus in a free translation are going like this... "You are what I was looking for, every chance that I had to fall in love with someone, gimme your hand and feel my heart beating... I love you... make me go higher, come closer, hold my tight and kiss me to unlock my heart... kiss me because something new is about to start... kiss me... kiss me... kiss me..."

We hope that now you can enjoy even more the song during your Christmas holidays!

Have a great rainy day,
Your! StayInAthens Team

  • 19 Dec: Friends Of Canada Film Lovers Network

Dearest friends-film lovers! As you may have already guessed, we are planning to see THE MASTER at DANAOS cinema this Wednesday 19/12. The film is said to be one of the best this year. After the cinema we are suggesting a small cafe nearby, VANILIA KAI KANELLA for a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, etc, but mainly for a chat about the film-we suspect there will be lots to talk about. ONE PROBLEM: The ADEDY have announced a strike that day, they have not said anything about means of transport yet, so, if such a problem occurs, we'll let you know in due time. Otherwise, we suggest 19/12 at Danaos 109, Kifissias ave. (access by Bus, trolley bus & Metro Panormou) at 19.45.

Every Wednesday tickets cost 5 euros at Danaos, so we should be there around 19.15 to make sure there are tickets available for everyone who comes. Please apply at tsitsipi@gmail.com just to give us an idea how many there will be, and so that we can contact you if our plans must change.

  • 19 Dec: Default Company - Weather tales

What would we do if we woke up one day and all the colours were gone? Well, the same thing, clearly, that the heroes of Alexis Kyritsopoulos’ Fairytale of colours do: we’d rush to the ends of the Earth in search of the Rainbow to bring them back—because life’s unbearable in black and white. Eight musicians and dancers set off on a treasure hunt, talking, singing, dancing and playing their way through an adventure that will lead them into the unknown. Along the way, they will walk through images, test their wits against magnitudes and scales, acquaint themselves with shapes and the shapeless, keep their balance on some occasions and fall flat on their faces on others. The default company, a group of young people who met in theatre school in Thessaloniki and travelled to Berne and London to broaden their artistic horizons, come to Athens determined to make us wonder: might we already be living our lives in black and white?

The National Greek Opera presents one of the most beautiful Christmas stories, "The Nutcracker". In "The Nutcracker" the line between dream and reality is blurred. Hoffman's "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", while Act II will include music from the Overture-Fantasy Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky. In this new production of the Greek National Opera Ballet, the choreography focuses on Clara's dream, a dramatic coming of age through love and fear.
