Google honours the greek poet Odysseas Elytis

In celebration of his 101st birthday, Google Doodle honours today, Friday 2/11, the iconic Greek poet and Nobel Prize winner Odysseas Elytis. The Doodle features all major elements in Elytis’ work, such as an olive tree, a sea boat, a bunch of grapes and of course a sketch of the poet himself with his characteristic captain’s hat.

The laureate poet has greatly influenced modern European poetry and forged a fusion of classic surrealism paradigms imbued with the luminosity of the Greek sun.
